Founded in Edinburgh in 1962 by Professor Percy Johnson Marshall, an architect and town planner of international repute. Johnson was planning consultant to the University of Edinburgh and was also involved in master plans for Sao Paulo, Porto, and Islamabad and various redevelopment schemes in UK towns such as Edinburgh, Kilmarnock and Salford.
The practice has grown steadily and developed across the UK in the last ten years. We opened our London studio in 1996, with Leeds following in 1997. In 2001, we merged with McKeown Alexander to form our studio in Glasgow, and established our team in Manchester in 2003. Acquiring the well known Edinburgh practice of Wheeler & Sproson in 2005, we now employ nearly 150 people. 2008 sees the opening of new studios in Belfast and Abu Dhabi.
Maintaining a link to our heritage, we re-branded from PJMP to jmarchitects in 2003.
